INTEGRATED HEALTH KINESIOLOGY
The IHK clinic
specialises in correcting learning difficulties and enhancing learning skills
for both adults and children. The aim of the clinic is to make learning in all
areas, easy and enjoyable. Many of the symptoms of attention deficit disorder
are corrected using these techniques.
Some of the most
important aspects of this programme are to improve memory and recall, and to
stay calm under stress (tests, exams or just keeping up with the class in the
areas of difficulty).
It is a safe and
proven system. It combines the latest discoveries in brain function with a
synthesis of the complimentary health therapies (Applied Physiology, Neural
Organisation Technique, Acupressure, Counselling Kinesiology™, Food Sensitivity
Testing etc.).
We work in with
teachers, tutors and most importantly - parents.
We also work in
with other health professionals wherever possible, such as chiropractors,
optometrists, speech therapists, psychologists and dentists (yes - even dental
problems can contribute to learning difficulties!).
What Causes Learning Difficulties?
Learning is a
natural process - our very survival depends on it. Through play, a child learns
to eat, to move, to speak and respond,
stimulated by pleasurable experiences and learning
from painful ones
With the aid of
parents and teachers the horizons are opened even further.
All the time our
nervous system is practising integrating what our senses of sight, smell,
taste, touch, feel and balance tell us, with the changes that occur when our
brain and body respond.
Imagine if there
were some confusion in the nervous system as a result of birth trauma,
concussion, food sensitivities, infection, emotional stress or delayed
development - in
a particular area of the brain. The natural learning process would be slowed
down.
“Confusion in the nervous
system and lack of access to brain functions is the basis of virtually all
learning difficulties”.
Why is my child so capable in many areas
but can’t spell?
Confusion in the
nervous system and lack of access to brain functions,
can be in very specific areas. This is why we commonly see quite intelligent
children who cannot spell.
Frequently this
is an inability to make, or remember, mental “pictures” of words. All spelling
is done (often inappropriately) by phonetics i.e. the way a word sounds.
What about Attention Deficit Disorder
(ADD)?
ADD and its
cousin ADHD (Attention Deficit with hyperactivity) can be very distressing for
parent, teacher and particularly the child.
Through the
application of this programme we have found that many of the symptoms of ADD
& ADHD disappear. These symptoms appear to be related to poor access to
more general brain functions
Behaviour and Learning Difficulties
It is our
experience at IHK that, social problems not withstanding, many of the
behavioural problems in school are a direct result of the frustration and
embarrassment that is experienced by children with learning difficulties.
What to Expect at IHK Consultations
Initial
Consultation -
discussion of areas of concern
detailed assessment to determine the learning
strengths and weaknesses
determination of a treatment plan with an estimate of
how many sessions it is likely to take (typically 10x1hr)
referral for additional treatment if considered
necessary
Subsequent
sessions -
correction of deep levels of confusion in the
nervous system
establishing a stable foundation of brain integration
- even under stress
increase the access to brain areas or functions
identified as problems in the initial consultation
overcoming self esteem issues and forming positive
attitudes to learning
Reassessment -
checking that all the learning functions have
been corrected
giving follow up exercises
arranging tutoring or a home reinforcement self
help programme with parents
Follow up -
2-3 months after
the final consultation, to check on progress and correct any further problems
that may have arisen
Gordon Dickson ND,Dip.A, B.Eng(hon)
is the Director of Integrated Health
Kinesiology. He has an extensive training in Kinesiology, especially as it relates
to learning. With a background in Naturopathy and music teaching, it has led to
a very effective way of working with children.
An initial
qualification in Electrical Engineering ensures a thorough understanding of
arithmetic and advanced maths. concepts.
He collaborated
with Dr. Charles Krebs & psychologist Susan McCrossin
for several years, in refining and extending the Learning Enhancement Advanced
Programme (LEAP). Further studies in Neural Organisational Technique proved
very helpful in many cases of Attention Deficit problems.
An experienced
counsellor, Gordon developed the Counselling Kinesiology™ system which he
teaches throughout
